For teenagers in the town of Davidson's Hope, life is pretty dull. High school is a jungle where the popular and powerful prey on the rest. Over break, there's not much to do besides watch TV, drink, and cause trouble

Almost no one leaves town, not for college, work, or to see the world. Instead they just stock shelves or work at the mill.
Some say being born in Davidson's Hope is a life sentence.
Life is hard for humans in the Dawn Lands. After their troubled history with the land's other inhabitants, oppressive laws restrict their rights and powers.
Some few escape to the wilderness, living as their elders did, while those in city work as servants. There are even some who wander as mercenaries, operating at the fringes of the law.
Shay
One of the few human bounty hunters in the Dawn Lands. She's a force to be reckoned with, but with no family or friends to call her own.

A withdrawn and
anxious girl who lost her popular sister in a mysterious accident.
